The Workers Union is a group of London-based young professional musicians, who studied at the Guildhall School of Music and share an interest in performing new music. The group specialises in working with emerging composers to enable and promote the performance of new works written especially for the group.
The unusual line-up of the ensemble has elicited a wide range of responses from composers since forming in 2008. The group has evolved a method of working in which the composer, conductor and performers work closely together throughout the development of the piece, beginning with a series of workshops. Concert highlights include performances at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, Sounds New Festival, and the Turner Sims Concert Hall.
